Nisseno Tour The Project
The initiative aims to stimulate local development in the social, cultural, recreational and touristic aspects through the creation of an infrastructure characterized by a recreational and cultural center and a tourist information and reception center, with the aim of contributing to diversifying and deseasonalizing the tourist offer, preserving the landscape, promoting local specialties through direct contact with tourists and encouraging the creation of opportunities in rural areas.
The project initiative involves the implementation of interventions for tourism development, respectively in the municipalities of Mazzarino and Riesi.
The areas subject to the intervention will concern the Municipalities of Mazzarino and Riesi, which fall into Area D, according to the classification of Annex 6 of the PSR Sicily 2014/2020: obviously both the Municipalities involved are part of the GAL Terre del Nisseno, the Municipality of Mazzarino, moreover, is part of the Sicilian municipalities of the Sicilian Ecological Network (RES).
Before describing the specifics of the itineraries and attractions of the municipalities constituting the beneficiary partnership, it is necessary to carry out a descriptive framework of why these two municipalities are affected by a unique project.
The municipalities involved are characterized by a marked territorial and cultural continuity, in fact, they are located in the eastern part of the province of Nissena, on the border with the provinces of Enna, Agrigento and Catania. The main peculiarity, from the point of view of tourist usability, is linked, for Mazzarino, to the fact of being part of the south-east tourist district and for Riesi to the tourist district of the mines. Therefore, both municipalities have been included and classified as having a strong tourist vocation, but in two different districts. This project aims to exploit the opportunity offered by the EAFRD, through the GAL Terre del Nisseno, to systematize the potential of their territories.
The tourist who comes to the Nisseno area, today is abandoned to himself or to the proposals of the few agencies operating in the Nisseno area, which in the periods of greatest tourist influx struggle to satisfy the requests for services and especially information, putting in second place the attractions of the Municipalities of Mazzarino and Riesi to the exclusive advantage of the capital city. The choice of the municipalities to aggregate and network from the presentation phase of the project proposal, materializes in putting together an integrated tourist offer full of modern services.
It is above all the way in which services are provided and the quality of the offer put online that represents the strong point of this project. In fact, food and wine, the uncontaminated and fully accessible environment, represents an ever-increasing component of the needs that tourists express in the construction of holiday itineraries.
The driving idea is therefore to integrate an offer of museum, historical, artistic and archaeological attractions, with an excellent food and wine offer and quality local craftsmanship, so as to blend together, in the proposed itineraries, in a local environment, which provides the backdrop for proposals for bike excursions, or/and walks in the historic centers, or/and trekking excursions outside the inhabited centers.
With the interventions envisaged in the project, the general objective is to deseasonalise the tourist presence, currently strongly linked to the summer period and the Christmas and Easter holidays, with the creation and strengthening of some integrated routes that intercept the cultural, environmental, food and wine peculiarities as well as the businesses and services that will support the routes themselves, in the territory of the Municipality of Mazzarino. In line with the objectives of the action of the GAL 2.2.3 Improve the quality of life in rural areas by enhancing the building, environmental, landscape heritage, villages and rural villages. (EAFRD), the project will be substantiated in supporting the creation of new synergies between the tourism sector and that of agriculture and local crafts, precisely in the premises converted to the service and reception of tourists.
